Which formats are compatible with my iPod/MP3 player/mobile/ipad?

MP3 is universally compatible, so you can play our MP3 music files on any MP3 player, iPod or any other Mac products.

Is the album artwork included when I purchase the download?

All new and recently-added MP3 downloads will contain artwork but downloads from the older part of our catalogue may not. However, we are working to deliver artwork with all MP3 downloads. Windows Media files do not include artwork due to technical limitations with this type of file.

Can I recommend tracks to a friend?

You can recommend an album, or any track to a friend by clicking on the + button next to the buy button. This allows you to share the content on facebook or twitter and also enables you to add it to your wish list or e-mail the link to anyone you know

Can I save tracks to buy later?

Tracks remain in your basket for upto 24 hours whether you log in or out of your fairsharemusic account or close your browser window.

Are there subscription fees for fairsharemusic?

fairsharemusic is not a subscription-based service. Our customers are only charged for downloads they have purchased, at the point of purchase.

I can’t find the download that I am looking for.

If you are unable to find the tracks that you are looking for via our advanced search facility, then we are not able to sell those downloads to you at the moment. It may be that the content you are looking for has not been licensed for digital distribution or that it has not been licensed for the UK.

Please check back from time to time.

Can I buy CDs from fairsharemusic?

fairsharemusic sells digital downloads only. We do not currently offer CDs, DVDs or other physical products, however we may offer special one-off physical products from our charitable partners in the future.

Why are certain tracks only available if you buy the whole album?

We are instructed by our suppliers to prevent sales of individual tracks from certain products. These tracks appear as unavailable to buy seperately but they are available as part of the whole single or album purchase.

What determines the price of tracks/albums?

For every download we sell, fairsharemusic pays a fee to the content aggregator that supplies (or “licenses”) the audio/video to us, and also to any songwriters involved. The price of each download/bundle that you see in the store will be determined by the prices that we are charged by the content owner. Where an album is at a lower price, this typically indicates that the price that we pay to the supplier of that album is also lower.

Why are certain albums listed more than once?

Our supplier will often provide more than one format for a particular album and this sometimes results in an album being listed more than once on our site. We do try to keep duplicate listings to a minimum. However, this can be complicated as these versions are subject to appearing, disappearing or changing at any point.

Do you sell FLAC (Free Loseless Audio Codec) releases?

Yes, we have a limited selection at present, but as they become more widely available we aim to increase our library. Click here to find them.

I've purchased so where are my downloads?

Your downloads can be found by logging into fairsharemusic.com and clicking on My Account then View and Download Purchases. If there are any issues logging in please contact support@fairsharemusic.com

Please note that you do not have to purchase a track or album again in order to download it a second time, it can be accessed and downloaded again from your View and Download Purchases area.

Step by Step guide to downloading (using the Zip file)

1. Click once on the download tracks as a zip file button (the blue button).

2. Slect the destination where you'd like the file to be saved

3. It shouldn't take long to download depending on your broadband connection and the length of the album e.g. less than 5 minutes for a 150MB download. If it takes considerably longer please contact support@fairsharemusic.com

4. Right click on the downloaded zip file and select Extract All

5. Select the destination to save the files to (e.g. your music library folder)

6. Finally, simply click on the folder and drag and drop the saved files into your media player (e.g. iTunes)

Which destination folder will my downloads appear in?

This will depend on the computer you are using. A Mac will automatically load your download into your music library. By default, a Windows 7 or Vista computer will download your tracks to the My Downloads file. A Windows XP computer may download your file into the programme settings for that particular computer however a window will open to give you the ability to decide where you require the file to download to. We have also provided download tips within the View and Download Purchases page.

What is a zip file and how do I use it?

A zip file allows you to download several of your tracks at the same time as a single, smaller file for distribution. You will need to ‘unzip’ this file and extract your downloads before you can play or transfer them to an MP3 player or mobile phone.

You will not require any special software to unzip the file if you are on Windows XP, Vista or OSX operating systems.

To download your tracks or albums using our zip functionality

Click on the blue download button

Save the file onto your computer

The file saves into a zip

Double click the file to open the zip

Drag and drop the folder straight into i-Tunes or Windows Media or extract the files to the destination of your choice and then drag and drop the folder from that destination into iTunes

How do I add tracks from fairsharemusic to my iTunes library?

Computers using Mac, Vista or Windows 7 should have their tracks automatically downloaded into your Itunes library. If this doesn’t occur you may have to drag and drop your music into the iTunes library.

How do I transfer tracks to my iPod/MP3 player?

To transfer a file to an iPod, you will need to add it to your iTunes library. The file will be transferred to your iPod the next time you ‘sync’ your music.

The procedure for transferring downloads to an MP3 player varies according to the type of player you are using. You may need to consult the user manual or help pages for your player for detailed instructions.

If your MP3 player is linked to your music library, in most cases you will need to add a download to this library and it will be transferred to your player the next time you sync your music.

How do I download or transfer tracks to my mobile phone/iPad/mobile device?

We recommend that you download your tracks to your music library on your computer and then sync your library to your mobile phone or other mobile device. We are currently working on an App which will allow you to download directly to your device, but until then you will have to download your purchases onto your computer and sync then music onto your device.

There’s something wrong with my download. What should I do?

Please contact our support team, including the details of the download you are having trouble with and the type of problem that you have experienced. Please do not purchase the download again as re-purchasing will not rectify the problem.

Why can’t I play certain downloads on my Mac?

Unfortunately, we are not currently able to offer all downloads in a Mac-friendly format. This is because we are required by certain copyright holders to distribute specific content in a protected format. We can only provide such downloads as DRM-protected Windows Media files, which are not Mac-compatible.

If the download you are having problems with is not a Windows Media file, please contact our support team, including the details of the download and the difficulties that you have experienced.

My download won’t play on my MP3 player or my phone.

If you have downloaded your music as a single (zip) file, you should make sure that you have extracted the files before you attempt to play them.

If you continue to experience difficulty transferring or playing your downloads on your MP3 player or mobile phone, please contact our support team, including the details of the download you are having trouble with.

What is DRM encryption?

DRM stands for Digital Rights Management and is an encryption found most commonly in music and video files to restrict the free use and transfer of the media.

What is kbps?

In brief, kbps is the bitrate of an audio file. You would normally see MP3 files in 128 kbps or more. When an audio signal is sent to a digital platform, it maps out the sound wave taking a sample (or picture) of it many times within a second. The number stands for how many times within a second the audio file is sampled (kilobits per second) therefore the higher the number, the higher the quality and the closer to the original sound wave it will be.

My downloads remaining differs?

Different record companies provide licenses for a different number of downloads. Some record companies offer 3 and some offer 5. You will see how  many downloads are remaining in your View and Download Purchases section.

Charities FAQ

* Why have you chosen a limited number of partner charities?

* I can’t see the charity of my choice/I can’t decide?

* How do I change my supported charity?

* Am I eligible for Gift Aid?

* How do I know my chosen charity is getting your donation?

* How long will it take for my charity to get their money?

* How is the donation split when i choose Support All

Why have you chosen a limited number of partner charities?

There are over 200,000 registered charities in the UK and whilst we would like to help them all we decided to concentrate on an exclusive approach with partner charities from across a broad range of sectors. We have chosen these particular partner charities for their links with digital innovation, a history of using music or entertainment within fundraising, or for personal reasons.

I can’t see the charity of my choice/I can’t decide?

If you can’t decide on a particular charity then choose the “Support All” option within the drop down list and we will split the donation that we make across all of our partner charities.

If you feel that we have missed a charity that you are passionate about supporting, please e-mail us at charity@fairsharemusic.com and we will see if we can get them involved.

How do I change my supported charity?

Go to your account setting and there will be an option to select your preferred charity from the drop down menu. Simply select the charity of your choice and click on save.

Am I eligible for Gift Aid?

Gift aid can be claimed when a UK tax payer donates to their charity and the charity can claim back tax paid on the income being donated. However, in our case, the monies being donated are not originated from Givers (UK taxpayers) but are profits  that will be donated by fairsharemusic.com. Therefore, it is fairsharemusic.com making the donations in accordance with the wishes of Givers and therefore donations are not eligible for Gift Aid.

How do I know my chosen charity is getting your donation?

Fairshare Music Limited has contractual agreements with each of our founding partner charities and affiliates. We are also members of the Institute of Fundraising and Fundraising Standards Board.

How long will it take for my charity to get their money?

Our agreements stipulate that we pay the partner and affiliate charities within 30 days of receiving an invoice. To keep our administrative costs down we do one statement run per quarter within 30 days of a calendar month end.

How is the donation split when I choose Support All?

Payment of the donation amount will be equally split between the partner charities and paid in line with our payment terms
